Jeu De Vive

Translation in English..."cheerful enjoyment of life."

Weird week already.
Although my PawPaw is a fighter, it appears he may choose not to fight this fight. We all have to pick our battles and I respect that. There are so many cycles of life that are surrounding me. My grandfather's body giving out at his age, I'm turning 30, and Jack turns 6 months old. Wow time is so precious and every moment really does count. How do we live it to the fullest? How do we make each moment count?

I believe I received the "jeu de vive" from my grandfather. You see I have this desire to make something happen that I have envisioned. If someone tells me of an emotion they want to feel during an event, I like to think of all things and experiences that I can make happen to give them those lasting memories. That is what life is. Snapshots of memories that all evoke this amazing feeling of love. "Events" can be small. They can be two people taking a dog to a dog park. They can be a man throwing you as hard as you can in the air so you come crashing down on waives in Galveston. They can be rocking a baby small enough to fit in both your arms. All of these things you envision doing before you actually do them. Having the determination to see your intentions through is another.

I can guarantee you my PawPaw will never say:
"I wish I could have gone on this trip"
"I should have taught my children this lesson"
"I wish I had built stuff with my own two hands"

He. Made. Things. Happen. Period. Exclamation point.

Please take the time to call someone today and tell them you love them. Just that and nothing else. I am sure you have at least one person who needs to hear those three words today.

Don't Count Your Chickens...Count Your Blessings!

Easter is a blessing in so many ways. You get to be around family and you also get to celebrate Jesus. What more could you ask for?

Krissy came to visit earlier in the week because it was her spring break. She also got to share with everyone their wonderful news that they are expecting a baby in October. I can't express enough how happy I am for my sister and John. She is going to be the best mom. Seriously, she really is natural at it. Her visits always go by too fast for me. I miss having her at home all the time, but enjoy how she and I can hang out like we never had a day apart. We have a few adventures up our sleeves this summer. They can't come soon enough!

Friday we had a little scare on the Thompson side of my family and my PawPaw went to the hospital. We all rushed to go see him and luckily the "spring chicken" was talking and fighting the fight. He reminds me of Jack in that they don't care what people think, they love spending time with family, and what they really need to focus on is eating and sleeping. Why do we seem to make things so difficult by worrying about the small stuff in the middle part of our life? I guess someone has to. Oh adulthood! Please continue to say prayers for he and my family. We all know he is a tough cookie but your support is greatly appreciated.

Good Friday at the Preisler's house in E.B. should really be called fabulous Friday. Michael and his dad cooked crawfish. Yum! The usual crew came over for laughs, good eats, and our usual debates. If I ever had to wonder where Michael gets his honesty from I don't have to travel very far.

Saturday was a rough day for Jack. His eczema was finally under control but his sleep schedule was not. What a joy! Somehow we managed to catch the few good hours he had with the Easter bunny.

Sunday we went to church and Jack behaved himself. We normally are bouncing our crying baby in the foyer, but this time we had a cooing and smiling baby that was charming his fellow parishioners. Look at that little Easter bunny just a smiling! Once again, eating and sleeping make Jack and PawPaw happy boys.

Taking a moment to enjoy the open sea is something that refreshes the spirit. We took Jack out sailing and he continued to be such a trooper. We feared the lifejacket would make him upset, but instead it was like he was stuffed in a little cocoon and the ocean rocked him to sleep.

I have been blessed

Michael and I went out for a date night Sunday to the rodeo. We got to see Randy Rogers, Martina McBride, and the KING...George Strait. Mom and Dad watched Jack and had a blast with him. (thank goodness he behaved and thank you parents :)

As I was sitting there next to my wonderful husband, I thought how lucky I was to have the friends and family that God has given me. Memories of being a little girl and listening to George in my grandparents car kept coming to mind. Of course it could still be lingering pregnancy hormones, but I wiped away my tears to this song. I get that from my Dad.

Blessed by Martina McBride

I get kissed by the sun each morning
Put my feet on a hardwood floor
I get to hear my children laughing
Down the hall through the bedroom door
Sometimes I sit on my Front porch swing
Just soaking up the day
I think to myself,  I think to myself
This world is a beautiful place

I have been blessed
And I feel like I've found my way
I thank God for all I've been given
At the end of every day
I have been blessed
With so much more than I deserve
To be here with the ones that love me
To love them so much it hurts
I have been blessed

Across a crowded room
I know you know what I'm thinking
By the way I look at you
And when we're lying in the quiet
And no words have to be said
I think to myself, I think to myself
This love is a beautiful gift

Living it up!

JMP is really a handful. Literally he is getting to be SO big. He laughs so hard and we just can't get enough of it. You would think someone told him the greatest joke, but really it was probably Daddy making some weird noise that set him off. The teachers at his school say that he is pretty chatty. Wonder where he get's that from? They also say he laughs hysterically to himself all the time.

Look how happy we are when we are well rested!

He is so lively that it makes trying to put him to sleep rather hard. "Sleep training" is rather difficult. There is a reason they make millions of books about it. I think we are all desperate for a full nights sleep, including the dog. This is what it feels like when we just can't get enough rest. If our happy baby gets this cranky, imagine his momma on just as little of sleep :).

I know what you are thinking. What are they doing to that child to make him so upset? Match the captions to the photo:
"I'm not ready to sit up!!!!"
"Really, another picture?"
"Okay you are holding me but you are not feeding me. Wuddup with that?"
"Tummy time is for the birds."

We've already had to give him a haircut! He prefers a well trimmed comb over.

Alright you wanted the REALLY good stuff. We save the best for last. Enjoy Prince Jacque! (yes, they call him that at school...french accent and all. Maybe they are saying he is high maintenance.)

And We're Rolling...

Left a good job in the city
Workin' for the man every night and day
And I never lost one minute of sleepin'
Worryin' 'bout the way things might have been

Big wheel keep on turnin'
Proud Mary keep on burnin'
Rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin' on the river

And Jack is ROLLIN'!

We've had some great time with family lately. Enjoy!

Some of it even entailed becoming a lil' cajun cowboy!

Holy Toledo...What a Way to Finish!

After over six years with the Houston Astros, life threw me a wonderful curve ball and I had to take a swing at it. I am excited to take on a new career as an event planner for Keely Thorne Events. Exquisite weddings and making client's dreams come true is what I love most, and I couldn't be more excited for this new adventure.

Leaving Minute Maid Park for one last time was a very odd feeling. When you work in sports, you really never stop working. There is this passion to help your team that is insatiable, and everyone is buzzing around trying to make the dream come alive. Early mornings, late nights, marketing meetings, buzz words, bridal shows, mascot reveals...you name it and we would be hashing out all angles of it. The access I had to such talented executives and professionals was limitless and truly taught me invaluable lessons that I will never forget.

I started out as an intern. I think normal people feel like the word "intern" means lowest person on the food chain. I viewed it as an opportunity to be a worker bee and get to know EVERYONE, so I soaked in all that I could. Sure I will pass out programs, work long hours, and log video tapes for you. Please just teach me everything you know and let me watch you for a bit. Not everyone gets to see a World Series, 18 inning game, Biggio's 3000th hit, and attend Spring Training. I knew I was lucky and that there was something about Minute Maid Park that wouldn't let me be away from that Astros star for long. Later, when I would train countless interns, I always thought about the people who gave me my opportunity and took time to teach me some of the hard lessons they had learned. Sharing my lessons and helping interns find their path was always one of my favorite work assignments.

Luckily I sold copiers for a year between my internship and going back to the team, because the outbound sales I did over that year would later be referred to from upper management as, "well if she can sell copiers, can't she sell anything?"

Being a part of the Special Events Department was like being a part of our own small business. Everyone in the organization was working on baseball, and we were working on everything going on in the ballpark BESIDES baseball. The cleaning, engineering, audiovisual, catering, marketing, ballpark entertainment, sponsorship, community...well you name it...the other departments all had a full plate with baseball and we would just add more "cherries on top" with our Special Event client events. We all did it and performed to the highest of standards. Some of the event pictures below showcase some of the amazing things we got to be a part of.

When they start the game, they don't yell, "Work ball." They say, "Play ball."
-Willie Stargell

If you looked up from your Iphone in the morning and stopped checking your email, the most amazing thing would happen when walking into work. You would notice you worked at a ballpark. There is nothing more magical than a field with sunlight just barely hitting the grass and sprinkler heads popping up. Baseball can be very romantic. My PawPaw always said, "Get a job." I guess he never realized when he used those words he would push me to swing for the big leagues. Thank you everyone, and you know who you are, for supporting me during this former chapter and helping me travel into the new one. I realized a large part of what made me tick over these years and now the clock has a new battery.

You see, you spend a good piece of your life gripping a baseball, and in the end it turns out it was the other way around all the time.

Just FOUR You!

Jack turned four months on February 15th. This also happened to be Dot and PawPaw's birthday too. What wonderful people to share a new milestone with!

Jack loves to giggle VERY hard.
He has two bottom teeth.
He has started to grab his toes.
He is very close to rolling completely over.
He still has all of this hair.
He has started his love affair with Sophie (see giraffe in photos).
He is almost sleeping through the night (now just wakes up at 2:30 a.m. instead of three times a night).
He loves to kick and lay on his back.
When he is ready to eat he lets you know it.
The teachers at school call him "the little prince" since he is the only boy in the class the majority of the time.
He doesn't mind attention from Cooper.

Jack has some very cute girlfriends already. Jack taught Molly and Annabelle how to par-tay during the super bowl. Not a bad way to watch the game with two pretty ladies on each arm! He received his very first valentine in the mail from sweet Caroline. Some of his girlfriends at school may have been loving on him a little too much this week and gave him the sniffles. But his number one fan is his momma. He still saves all of his kisses for me! (for now at least)

We are trying to prevent him from being a "yuppy", so we make sure he gets a healthy helping of Duck Dynasty, fresh air without any diapers, and country life. It is always good to get a little dirty beyond just spit up.
